Trollholmsund i Porsanger i Finnmark er en severdighet med avkjørsel fra E6 sør for Indre Billefjord. Området her består av dolomitt (kalkstein) som er dannet for ca. 700 millioner år siden.
Steinformasjonene som står i Trollholmsund i dag er knyttet til et gammelt samisk sagn. Ifølge sagnet kom det gående troll over vidda. Noen troll kom visstnok nordover fra Lakselv. Med seg har de hatt en kiste med gull og sølv. De kom ned til sjøen og kunne ikke komme videre. Det var like før soloppgang, og de lette etter hull store nok til at de kunne gjemme seg. Det klarte de ikke, og ble til stein da sola rant. Her finner vi blant annet lapprose (Rhododendron lapponicum), som må ha kalk, i motsetning til andre rhododendroner, som vil ha sur jord.
Trollholmen er ei lita øy som ligger rett øst for fastlandet og Trollholmsundet.
Trollholmsund in Porsanger, Finnmark is an attraction with an exit from the E6 south of Inner Billefjord. This area consists of dolomite (limestone) that was formed ca. 700 million years ago.
The rock formations standing in Trollholmsund today is linked to an ancient Sami legend. According to legend a troll came walking over the plateau. Some trolls supposedly came northwards from Lakselv. They carried with themselves a chest containing gold and silver. They came down to the sea and could not go further. It was just before sunrise, and they were looking for holes big enough that they could hide in. They could not find any, and turned to stone when the sun rose. Here you can find lapland rosebay (Rhododendron lapponicum), which needs lime, unlike other rhododendrons, which need acidic soil.
Trollholmen is a small island located just east of the mainland and Trollholmsund.
